What was your theme/colors and what inspired it?
My theme was modern-fun. I wanted classic shapes with clean lines with some bling! My colors were Pink and Silver with pops of Black
What creative (DIY) or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
Well from Esty itself- I got my veil, my shoes clips, flower for my hair, my grater and 3 pink table runners for my cake table, head table and gifting table. Personal touches – I had pictures of family members that had passed with their pictures and a memorial candle to remember them. I also had pictures of both of our parents on their wedding day with pictures of us from our engagement session. I had an engravable picture frame that all of our guest could sign. I also go small pink crystals in all sizes that looked like diamonds on every table to give it some sparkle. I also made drink cozies for each of our guests as their gift.
What was your favorite Etsy find?
I mean I like them all and they all mean different things to me but I loved my shoe clips and flower!!! Everyone loved it- it was nothing like anyone had ever seen!
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
I can’t pick just one! From me putting on my dress to seeing Derek for the first time to walking down the aisle… they all were so memorable. However walking into my reception and seeing all my hard work put all together was pretty cool! I mean I did it and it looks amazing!!!
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Best advice… if you are a control freak like I am… do it all yourself and make sure you have a smartphone so you can get emails any hour of the day! Also send out the same timeline to all your vendors so everyone has the same time line. Bottom line… make sure to laugh, have fun and know that you are planning the best and most fastest day of your life and make sure you have great people around you!

What was your theme/colors and what inspired it?
The theme was vintage tropical based around music. My husband and I are really into music, we attend dozens of concerts each year, and then we are definitely more into vintage looks and I love the tropics so wanted to throw in huge flowers and such. Kind of an old world Havana theme. Colors were Yellow, gold, and magenta. My favorite color is yellow because it is so happy and bright, and I love gold and then I threw in the magenta to add a burst of color. I thought it tied in well with the vintage and tropical theme. We had cabanas, a vintage juke box, a 12 piece band, so many flowers and the wedding party was transported on a trolley.
What creative (DIY) or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
We hired the best wedding planners (Mi Mi design ) who took my ideas and created crazy things. Almost everything was tied back to music, so the save the dates were postcards made from actual album covers, the table numbers were actual 45’s (records), the invites looked like small album covers, and everything pulled out from the side like vinyl would do.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
The ceremony. I thought I would be crying and super emotional, but the pastor was so genuine and funny, and said really lovely things about us (based off pre-marital counseling sessions), and standing across from such a lovely steady man, made the moment the most memorable. And also the after party we threw at First Avenue nightclub, we were able to book the 7th Street entry for just our wedding guests and brought in our friends to DJ so the night ended with reggae and hip hop music at our favorite concert venue!

Our custom cake toppers.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Hire good wedding planners that fit your personal style. They will create a super special and unique affair that suits you as a couple, and take away all of the planning and day-of stress. Also, pick the things you aren’t willing to budge on and then let some other things go (let mother of the bride, groom pick some things).

Today’s wedding took place at the Lazy F Bar Ranch in Crested Butte, Colorado and was shot by photographer Stone Crandall. Stone is the brother of the bride and even though he was a groomsmen in the wedding, still managed to get some great shots of Kelsey and Ryan’s DIY wedding. Kelsey first learned of Etsy through some friends and was inspired by the Etsy shoppes to make her own little pennant flags to decorate the dessert table.

What was your theme/colors and what inspired it?
Vintage, quirky, and fun. Our colors were primarily Navy and Kelly green

What creative (DIY) or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
I found downloadable tags from Annie Packman from www.marryyoume.com and Cambria Evans of J.Bartyn and used them to make labels for seating assignments free downloadable escort card/favor tags. We made our own cake pops and chocolate bundt cakes instead of a traditional wedding cake. My dad built us a photobooth backdrop and we bought moustaches from Etsy. We did all of our own flowers, and I made the groomsmen’s boutonnières. My brother designed all of our stationery- Save the Dates, invitations. I made our programs and fashioned them with cut fabric. I made little lanterns from mason jar and filled them with moss and tea lights. My mom and best friend made our green paisley napkins.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?
Feeling my heart race as Sigur Ros’ Hoppipola played and I saw my future husband at the end of the aisle!

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Now that I am officially married, I would tell my friends that it IS possible to plan a fun and beautiful wedding on your own! So much of my inspiration came directly from spending time checking out magazines and blogs.

What was your favorite Etsy find?
Hard call between the moustaches for the photobooth and the return address stamp!

I came across today’s fun wedding while browsing Ruffled earlier this month. Bride and photographer Jackie Ray had her best friend Abdi of Three Photographers capture her May wedding. Head over to the Ruffled Blog for the brides account of her day.

Shalon and Chris were married in front of 150 people on April 24th in Jackson, Mississippi . This is one of those wonderful weddings where no matter the circumstances (including power outages, threats of rain and near by tornadoes), the couple was just happy to be getting married to the person of their dreams.

What was your favorite Etsy find?
The crystal sash complimented my wedding gown very well and elevated the dress to a new level. It is definitely the best Etsy purchase I have ever made.
What was your theme/colors and what inspired it?
Purple, Black and White. Purple is my favorite color; it is very majestic and royal. I just love the darker, richer hues of purple. Black and white are beautiful, classic colors that complement anything. I got most of my weddings ideas from an amazing website: www.weddingbycolor.com, affectionately known as WBC. WBC is a network of the most creative and helpful brides who share their wedding ideas, DIY projects, and money saving tips with each other. It was also a great support system for me during the wedding planning process. I took a little inspiration from other brides and was able to create my own dream wedding.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
My hair was done, my makeup completed, and I was headed to the chapel to get dressed. All of a sudden, I received a phone call from my photographer and she told me that the power was out in the chapel! There was a 60% chance of rain that day, and a tornado was brewing nearby. Fortunately, the rain subsided before the ceremony, the power was restored, and the sunshine came out just in time for pictures. The most memorable part was that I did not stress. I was marrying the man of my dreams, and it was all that mattered.
What creative (DIY) or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
I am not very crafty; so, I semi-DIY certain aspects of the wedding. I designed and printed my invitations and programs using stationary from the BRIDES Magazine wedding collection. I also assembled my own wedding favors featuring local Mississippi treats such as bourbon praline pecans and sweet heat snack mix.
My grandmother was very near and dear to my heart. She passed away in 2006. So, to have her close to me on my special day, I carried her picture in a beautiful locket attached to my bouquet.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Relax! Budgets are always an issue, but you can truly have everything your heart desires at your wedding. Be realistic and willing to make small sacrifices here and there. You may have to do things in smaller quantities or embark on a DIY journey. Get creative and enlist the help of family and friends to make your dreams come true.
